I read this one in high school and participated in a spirited classroom debate about the subject - in favour of Swift's proposal. Good times!
Still one of the best representations of satire ever writen and srill as relevant today as when it was written.
Replace the "Papist" references with one of moderm day's maligned groups and the text still holds.

Men would become as fond of their wives, during the time of their pregnancy, as they are now of their mares in foal, their cows in calf, or sow when they are ready to farrow; nor offer to best or kick them (as is too frequent a practice) for fear of a miscarriage.
Unbelievably funny satire that is painfully relevant today, a couple hundred years after it was written.

While I can appreciate Swift as a master of satire, I think it's the subject matter of this that puts me off, especially the few descriptions of methods of preparation peppered through the short essay.
Points for its structure and Swift's daring criticism of everyone and everything - neither English nor Irish is safe from him here, but this just left me feeling a little sick.
