I enjoyed the first few essays of this collection immensely, especially due to her wit and humour. Unfortunately, I found that later essays didn’t quite pique my interest as much, so I’ll leave my rating to a 3 stars. Still, I would definitively recommend it to book lovers!

This is a delightful collection of short essays on the joys of reading, books and book collecting that dips into various periods, events and moments in Fadiman's life where books played a pivotal role, from her early childhood where some form of book was permanently attached to her person to the moment her and her partner merged their libraries (something that fills me with dread to this very day!). Fadiman captures what many of us bookworms spend our lives trying to explain to those non-book people (when we manage to lift our noses out of our book(s) anyway), the joy of a good book, from the feel of it in our hands, the look of it on our shelves (or floor, desk, stair or wherever else we may keep them) to the power of the words and notes contained within its pages. A fab little collection.

This is one of the sweetest little books about books ever. You will feel smart and elitist for having read it.

For as long as I can remember, books have always been my life. Reading most of Fadiman's essays was like reading some of my own thoughts in print. Her love for books is something I can completely relate to and frankly, this book is like a treasure that will remain close to my heart.

A slim volume with short chapters, Ex Libris is the kind of book that you'll carry around everywhere you go. Simply opening up a random page and devouring the words written on it. Reading all the highlighted passages again and again. - I cannot imagine a more relaxing activity than this. That's how powerful Fadiman's words are.

And the book is anything but serious. A healthy dose of humour is infused to keep you chuckling regularly. You'll be hooked right from the first essay - Marrying Libraries. An account of how Fadiman and her husband decided to mix their books and get rid of the extra copies of the same book. It is simply brilliant. Show-cases her obsession fro books and mirrors my own. Something even I think about from time to time - what will I do when I marry my library with my partner?
Thought-provoking, delightful, an ode to bookworms like us, - Must read, Must read, and Must read!
