Why is the rating so high? I went in for fantasy political intrigue without realizing this is extremely problematic smut without any core plot. I probably should've researched this more thoroughly.
At so many points I was tempted to drop because of just how disgusting the depiction of the world is. Filled with rape, pedophilia and slavery. Everyone is a piece of venomous shit. And some of their actions seem almost romanticized or at least sexualized. I didn't like it. I didn't like the frequency of it. I also dislike slave and master power dynamic so... this book really wasn't right for me.
Ugh, there's just so much wrong with this book that I cannot in good conscience recommend this or continue down this series.

This was… game of thrones level messed up.

this was soo good !!! i’ve been meaning to read this for years & after reading the authors series Fence i knew i needed to hurry up and get on it but it still took me until now to finally get around to it !!
i generally don’t read books from a male POV just because i don’t tend to connect with them as easily but i honestly had no trouble with this one and was hooked from the first page <3
i can’t wait to start the next book and see where this goes !!!
