I was looking for spicy LGBTQ romance reads and this was NOT IT. Sexual slavery is disgusting. I did find Nicaise’s political maneuvering as a “pet” to be interesting but that was it.
Did not like the forced “love interest” because it’s obvious there is NO chemistry between the two characters. Laurent is uninterested, abusive, and racist. And any thought Damen might have about him is obviously Stockholm syndrome.
The way gay sex is portrayed in this book is really homophobic. All instances are rape and is seen to the characters as punishment and humiliation.
I was hoping there would be some redemption of the main characters at the end where Laurent would open up to Damen and there would be at least an explanation as to why he’s so mean. And maybe they would fight against slavery but HAHA NOPE. I should have DNF this book.
FYI: I usually give a book four or five stars if I had a good time reading it. So yeah, I hardly ever give two stars let alone one.
