Goodbye, Eri

I walked into my local library expecting to grab something light—maybe a cookbook, maybe a mystery novel about a cat solving crimes. You know, something that wouldn’t make me question my entire existence. But then, a well-meaning librarian (who I now suspect is secretly a chaos agent) saw me lingering in the graphic novel section and said, “Oh, you have to read Goodbye, Eri.”

I, a fool, trusted them.

What followed was a reading experience best described as an emotional rollercoaster driven by someone who has never heard of brakes. This book tricked me. Several times. Just when I thought I knew what kind of story I was reading—BAM!—Tatsuki Fujimoto kicked down the fourth wall, rewrote reality, and made me question whether I was in a movie.

The art? Stunning. The storytelling? Unhinged in the best way. The emotional impact? Somewhere between “Wow, that was deep” and “I need to lie down for three to five business days.”

By the time I turned the last page, I was staring at the wall like a Victorian child who had just heard bad news. And yet, if that same librarian recommended me another title, I’d probably take it without hesitation. Because apparently, I enjoy suffering.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Five stars, but also five existential crises)

Thanks Jordan for letting me borrow this for the day after I complained I have trouble getting into manga because I don’t want to read so many volumes.

I really enjoyed this. I need to do some thinking about it for sure.
