“I’ll get to see you every time I watch it. No matter how many times I forget you..I’ll remember you again and again. Isn’t that beautiful?”
I’ve lost track of how many tears I’ve shed thanks to Tatsuki Fujimoto. He has a way of weaving the most beautiful and tragic stories both through his writing and his art. He pushes the boundaries of what’s already been done every single time and continues to reinvent manga with every new story he releases.
Goodbye, Eri touches on grief, existentialism and nostalgia. What would you do to be remembered forever? How far are you willing to go to be memorialized?

Tragically beautiful. An exploration on grief and life after death, as well as remembrance. How do you want to be remembered? Do you want to live forever? Is an over-idealized version of someone, the one you want to keep? — I can do on.
Don’t read this in public. I started tearing near the middle.

I really enjoyed this volume. I think the story is really creative, it had me hooked from start to end. I like how it makes you question the perspective you are seeing. Would recommend.

Fun ending, found most of it a bit tedious though.
There are so many interesting aspects to this manga, from the perfectly executed twists and turns of the story to the complex and deceiving characters. Days after finishing this manga it’s still on my mind. This is an incredible piece of work by Fujimoto and I know I HAVE to read chainsaw man now if it’s anything like this.
My thoughts in more detail. ~Spoilers ahead ~
I particularly love the way in which we, the readers, AND the audience in the story are watching this happen through Yuutas screen. The blurriness of certain panels, and how we’re seeing what he is seeing. It’s great too how he himself brings this point up in the story, how he like us has only ever seen his a large part of his life through a screen.
We are watching a movie, the lines of reality are so blurred it’s not possible to determine what happened and what didn’t. I have so many theories and thoughts about the how to interpret the ending. This manga is a masterpiece.

a book that manages to pretty perfectly encapsulate what I love about cinema, even though the book as a whole is pretty tragic. the ability to make something about yourself, for yourself, and the others around you: the heart, love, hate, humanity, and the otherworldly, fantastic feelings that come along with that, and maybe every now and then a little ridiculousness and fantasy to break it up a little.
Got an hour? Want to feel something? Read this.
This One-Shot Manga really just messed me up. It literally took me an hour to read and from the moment I opened the book to the end I just wanted more. I still want more, really. Amazing.
