Goodbye, Eri is weird, gut-punchy, and kind of beautiful in a way only Fujimoto can pull off. It messes with storytelling itself what’s real, what’s edited and leaves you thinking long after the last page. Short but haunting.

heartbreaking. this might be 5 stars, but i need time to think. this was a brilliant i don’t even know,,, exploration of grief and memory and love and perception and preservation. no. i will give it 5 stars. i am saddened and heartbroken. fujimoto is a master of the panel and the page.

This is one of those one-shots that I still think back to just in the whimsy of it all. It's very heartfelt from what I remember but the explosive ending is like a bad punchline - except it's not bad at all. I think what motivated me to read this short story is something I saw on TikTok, where they had taken just the "recorded" parts of this story and compiled a new narrative: the life that the main character captured. And I love stories like that.

I might reread this again soon just to take it in again and watch the movie he wanted to make one more time. Maybe I'll get a physical copy this time.
