Really enjoyed this book, and loved the gold sprayed edges and character art that came with it. Having read “the girl who fell beneath the sea,” it was interesting to see a different portrayal of an undersea kingdom. I can tell the author really enjoys sea life and researched well, with the various sea creatures that are characters in the book 🐢 🦈 🐉 🧜🏿‍♀️. The love story was a slow burn, with twists, betrayals, agony, and reunion. I kind of wish the ending had been a bit more romantic, but it was satisfactory. The kissing scenes were real good 👌🏼. Overall, what’s great about the book is the characters. There’s quite a few that you really get to know and care about. I love her interactions with her family, so supportive and funny and with their own faults to overcome. I loved the undersea kingdom portrayal. Very well done. Recommend reading.

weird pacing. too slow and then too fast, which is a waste for a book almost 500 pages long that could fit so much in such a juicy length. the romantic chemistry also wasn't there for me, and the deception of court politics just didn't hit right when it really so obviously telegraphed. but the prose was good, and i loved the family relationships and the food descriptions.

This was fun! I’m not a huge fan of Beauty and the Beast so I wasn’t sure this would be a hit for me - but this worked! Tru had a lot of agency and a really good heart - I ended up really invested in getting to the HEA. I do think the book was both predictable and pretty long, and it’s better to be only one of those things, but the vibes carried the day.
