3.5 stars rounded up. I struggled through the first half of the book in the beginning of each character’s story. But in the end, I enjoyed all the nuances of their individual stories and how they all came together at the end.

I don’t remember the last time I read a novel in one day. The Paris Hours is fan-freaking-tastic. I LOVED that George wrote 1920s Paris without all the glitz and glamour. I fell in love with the main characters, their stories, their settings, their lives. I loved how he wrote Americans as obnoxious buttholes (except for Josephine Baker). If he were to write this as a series, I would binge it for sure. The ending was both sublime and frustrating, absolutely perfect.

The writing was very good and the character depth and development was very well thought out. The ending on the other hand was severely disappointing. Absolutely no resolution!

This novel makes me wish I was quarantining in Paris. During my first visit, I stayed in Montmartre and I loved being able to envision the small alleys, cobblestones, and quaint cafés that George so beautifully depicted. The characters were likeable and human. Their stories tragic, lovely, and so so real.
I wish it was longer!

So slow that I nearly gave up halfway through, but I am glad that I finished. The way the plots converged was really fascinating.

I also felt that the celebrity cameos were a little overdone and took away from the stories of the main characters.

Still an interesting read, though.

This was such a great book...until the end. Be warned if you decide to pick this up, you may be left feeling like the rug was just pulled out from under your feet!

Alex George has improved so much as a writer. This story told from the perspectives of four very different people is a love letter to the streets of Paris, and how their personal tragedies all lead them to the same place on the same night to receive closure, how you’d least expect it. I wish this novel was twice as long so we could get more character development, in that way it falls short of a masterpiece.
