A cross between The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner and Anastasia. The Thief was better but I still very much enjoyed this and stayed up until 1am finishing it. I'm skeptical that the rest of the series will be as good, though.

Read for bookclub. It’s getting 5 stars for sending me to the library immediately upon finishing to get the rest of the series.
Action-packed story with a fantastic main character and without any of the typical YA angst. Highly recommend for middle school and high school, boys or girls. This is one that I would hand to any kid without worry about content, that would immediately suck them in.

Overall, I enjoyed it. For a while it seemed pretty predictable, but there were a few surprising twists towards the end.

Five stars for the Sass King Sage and this super under hyped series. Why isn’t everyone reading this?!

WELL, WELL, WELL. Good job, book, good job. It started off a little shaky at the beginning, and it took me a REALLY long time to get into your story because ugh how much does almost every single person in this book suck!!! But, you pulled it out. This is a book that you should really give a chance if you like YA fantasy-ish novels (or anything about monarchies). The TWIST!!! IT IS GREAT AND I LOVE IT!!! There is intrigue, drama, confusion, and some monarchical shifting going on in this book (so much happening after the first hundred pages or so), and you get really invested in the characters even though they're kind of all awful, but man, I really need to know what else is going to happen because this series is banging. Well done. You convinced me, and I'm impressed.

Overall this book seems totally appropriate for the target audience. I would've liked more imagery and depth of characters. Storyline is predictable and the character's personalities/actions don't necessarily fit their age, but that may be intentional to give adolescent readers characters that they can admire?
