We loved this book and we listened to it on audio with my 7 year old. There were a few suspenseful moments where he was scared but overall we wanted to know what would happen next. We were invested in some of the characters. One thing about the audio we loved is associating a character with a voice. Fun books for kids and their parents!
This book is amazing! It keeps you reading with all of the action. "Sage" is also amazing and he keeps up with all of his sharp wits and arrogance. He is the perfect character in the ways that people just want to keep reading! I may have read this book in a day flat! This is an amazing exhilarating book that will keep you reading to the end!!!

I've seen this one as recommended in a few places and I'm so glad I gave it a go. I could hardly put it down! Four boys have been pulled from various orphanages and are being trained by a crooked regent to become a puppet king, to claim the place of a prince lost at sea four years ago. It's really well written, and you'll find yourself cheering for Sage, the protagonist, throughout. I loved how I didn't see everything coming, although I thought I had it figured out--I didn't. This is a great one to recommend to your fantasy readers (although there really aren't any fantasy elements present. It takes place in a fictional kingdom).

Probably liked this less than three stars but a bit more than two. It felt kinda like it had been written by a teenager. Not sure how else to describe it. I didn’t understand why I should care about anyone or why anyone behaved the way they did. It sort of felt like weak motives and explanations were created to justify a scene that the author wanted to include. And so much time was spent explaining something away because it was so unnatural that it needed extra explanation
The False Prince is a work of ART. Not even joking. It is the most riveting novel I've read in a while, and Jennifer A. Nielsen is a genius. Although it says it's a Young Adult book, it's an enjoyment for any reader looking for a thrilling story with mystifying secrets.
The main character, Sage, is probably one of the most iconic characters. You'll fall in love with his personality within the first few pages, admiring his witty comebacks and his mundane attitude.
I want to marry Nielsen for writing The False Prince.
I finished it in a day and I cannot wait for the second installment of this trilogy.

The book had a really good world building and the author wrote beautifully. Honestly, I had a hard time reading through the book as it is predictable. I already had the idea of how it would play out not even halfway from reading it. I think readers of younger age would enjoy this book. I love how witty Sage’s comebacks are and clues were nicely placed so the plot twist wasn’t a shock to me at all.
I think there are still characters that are underdeveloped even though they actively participated in the plot. I would love to see how they will improve in the next books of the series - if they are a part of it.
I didn’t really love the book but with beautiful writing, I would give the next book a chance.
