What a fantastic book. I wouldn't be surprised if the Newbery committee would bring this one up. Great characters and a plot that keeps you guessing. There is a plot twist that one can probably guess, but the way she does it is just brilliant. I absolutely cannot wait until the next book is out!
Menyenangkan.

4.5 stars. Bruh. This was so good. Wow. Best beginning to a fantasy series I've read in a LONG time.
This book is decent but just WAY TOO PREDICTABLE. Good premise overall but I can't feel much chemistry between characters. Everything is just all too coincidental.
When Sage is taken from an orphanage by a man named Conner, he knows something isn't right. Conner has devised a plan to train an orphan boy to stand in as the long lost prince Jaren. The life of a prince is not something that Sage wants, but after the rest of the royal family is murdered, he can't let Conner succeed. But in order to win, Sage must convince Conner to choose him. Can this rebellious boy overcome is wild impulses to be the prince that the kingdom needs him to be?
This is such a fun story full of mystery and adventure. Sage is such a fun protagonist, getting into all sorts of trouble, but still good at heart. I really enjoyed seeing him develop as a character. Definitely a book I would recommend to everyone.

3.5 stars. I think kids would really love this book! I struggled with the character complexity/motives but I think the story plot is awesome and fast-paced and attention grabbing in a way vital to making this story stick with kids.
Solid plot and fantastic ending, but I feel as though the "big reveal" of this book would have made the first 250 pages so much better than they were to begin with if *most* of the necessary information about the main character came to light earlier.
However, the ending was so good that it fixed the main problems I had with this book, mainly being that the writing felt to disconnected from the first person narrative, and that there were so many things kept from the reader that made some things confusing to read. Good book, but not amazing. However, I will still probably read the second book in the series.

It kept my attention until the end, so it was pretty great. I didn't see the little twist in the middle/end coming though
This book was a bit predictable to me. I had my suspicions about Sage all along and I really wasn't surprised. One of the reasons being was that he was just to arrogant. He could be a peasant with a death wish, but then would there really be this book? It was enjoyable though, I liked how intelligent the main character was, how kind he was to people who were mean to him, and how nice he was to those who needed and asked for help. He was sassy, which I also really liked, and there was plenty of humor in this novel. I would recommend it to any guys who are looking for good YA fantasy.
Sage and several other boys are picked from various orphanages to try to learn to impersonate the missing prince. They only have two weeks to pull it off. It is hard to decide if Sage is friends or enemies with the other boys. The plot moves quickly.
I started this book a number of years ago and just couldn't get into it. I am so glad that I pushed through a second attempt because I loved how this book came together in the end. Wow!
