This all seemed too convenient for me, but I enjoyed it anyways. I had it figured out about halfway through that something was up with Sage and then once the transformation scene happened, I knew for sure. But this had a fun, mysterious element that kept me hooked even when I had it figured out. I don't know if I'll continue with the series because I think this book wraps up nicely, but we'll see.

Phenomenal. Amazing. Wonderful. These and many other words can describe the first book of what I can see to be a wonderful series. It took me awhile before reading it because I don't quite connect with a male character's point of view. But I finally picked it up because many people raved about it. And I was far from disappointed. This was an excellent first novel that swept me off my feet. The character's are so well constructed that you immediately feel as if they are your friends or enemies. The story was focused on plot instead of romance which was a breath of fresh air given the amount of love triangles there are in YA novels today. I recommend this book to everyone who loves to immerse themselves in a YA fantasy filled with danger, intrigue, action, politics, and quite a bit of humor. This is one of the few books that I wish I could rewind time and read it over again for the first time. Sadly, I can't, but this book and the one's after it will be on my keeper shelves for a long time.

Friends, this audiobook is good! I always hate when the voice just doesn't sound right, but McWade does a good job with every character and especially Sage. And there's a bonus scene of the duel with the king of Mendenwal and an interview with the author on the final CD. Plus this book is every bit as good as I remember it being, though there is more violence than I remember, and perhaps I should have been a bit more careful recommending it for upcoming teens. Still, I regret none of my recommendations. It's still the less romance than you're likely to find in most teen books—which is usually one criteria for which those guardians are searching.

This is supposed to be for the middle grade and I am clearly overage for it (by more than a decade!) but I absolutely LOVED IT!!

The King, Queen and the Crown Prince of a kingdom died under mysterious circumstances. The younger Prince of the kingdom had gone missing a few years back – rumored to have been shipwrecked and killed by pirates of a neighboring country. The kingdom is on the verge of a Civil war and the royal regents are all up against each other in the run for the now heirless Throne. Conner, a royal regent comes up with a brilliant plan of planting an impersonator of the long lost young prince. He searches all the orphanages in the country and selects four orphan boys, roughly the age and built of the Prince and then trains them in royal manner. The boys find themselves in a race for life and death – because if they do not train and learn fast enough they are sure to face death. As the story progresses, more and more are revealed about love, politics, betrayal that shapes up the events up till the end.

Though I was able to predict the overall plot [I had the advantage of a few extra years and a few hundred books], there were a lot of things that I could not guess. For instance I could guess who killed the royal family, but I had no idea how they were killed or how the murderer would be discovered. There are plenty of mysteries to be solved and twists to be expected in the plot. The characters in the plot are all amazing – whether the protagonist or the perpetrator or the friends and other side characters. Each person had some very important role to play and have affected the story in their own way. The author’s writing style is amazingly beautiful. She has used very simple language [it hardly has any fancy-big words in it] and created a beautiful piece of prose out of it!

No matter what your age is or what your preffered Genre is… read this book!
