Equal parts charming and melodramatic, this book was a fun look into the mind of a teenage girl. Surprisingly juicy for when it was written.

Color me impressed to know that Sagan wrote this at such a young age. I found myself smirking already at the first few pages when the narrator reflects on how unattractive people make her uncomfortable. It's a short and quick read with a lot ideas to digest.

Read this for my reading around the world challenge. Very atmospheric and French. The musing of a French girl and the drama she caused one summer. Enjoyable and quick read.

3.5 stars, rounded up. What an interesting, slim thing of a novel. While I finished still in want of more developed characters, Sagan nevertheless manages a satisfying exploration of the overwhelming desire to be seen and the consequences of attention in one's adolescence.

It was initially pitched to me as what THE MARGOT AFFAIR could very well be fan fiction of, and I couldn't describe it better; I highly recommend reading them together. With love to my pandemic book club for the recs : )
