I hate Major Ramsey and I hope he dies. I don't know what Ellie sees in him. He's a total ass; condescendingly paternalistic and sexist; doesn't trust her abilities despite repeatedly hiring her to work for him; doesn't communicate and deliberately obfuscates information for no reason; is constantly trying to pull her from dangerous spy situations when HE'S THE ONE WHO HIRED HER TO DO SPY STUFF; keeps getting mad at her for not being a good spy or listening to orders when he never trained her in how to be a spy, plus because he never communicates and she never knows what's going on she can't use her own judgement to figure out what the fuck she's supposed to be doing, so what does he fucking expect her to do when she can't trust him to tell her fucking anything so she just has to try her best with what little information she's got; then he turns around and declares her a civilian whenever it's convenient for him (she's WORKING FOR YOU AS A SPY. She is not a civilian! She is the definition of not a civilian!!!!!).
I'm also incredibly displeased by the hamfisted attempt to write Felix out as a romantic option by supposing he might feel too much like family for her to actually be romantically attracted to him. I've read Ellie's scenes with him. She's into him. And they have MILES more chemistry than she does with Major Asshole. I know she's not going to end up with Felix because she's supposed to be seduced by Doing The Right Thing and The Law, but so far The Law hasn't been very seductive. Mostly just incredibly irritating to deal with.
Great book if you enjoy WWII-era mysteries, cool women, and yelling at the romantic lead for his terrible behavior.

This series hits all the right notes for me: a bit of history, a compelling mystery, a spunky heroine, and a dash of romance. I breezed through the audiobook and wish the next installment was already released so I could keep going!
The mystery plot may have been just a little weaker in this installment, but the rest of the book made up for it.
