The third book in the Meredith Gentry series, has Meredith making deals with the goblins and the demi -faye. She's still trying to become heir to the throne , but has yet to become pregnant. There's lots of interesting things that happen to "Merry" in this book. She obtains power and is able to give or bring back many of the "Queens former Ravens" powers. The Queen went crazy in this book and I was really hoping she would finally be disposed of but she seems to have emerged a somewhat nicer person? I'm guessing the old Queen will come back soon. Great book, I have just realized there are like 8 books in the series so I have alot of reading to do. One thing I will never understand about these paranormal type books, are these guys with insanely long hair... I don't get the appeal.
I’m drowning in awesomeness here!
I LOVE Laurell K. Hamilton.
Serious.
Love.
This is my unteenth re-read of the Merry Gentry series and it’s just as enthralling as the first.
Maybe better because I know the people and world and can focus instead on little nuances of the story that I didn’t pick up in previous passes through the series.
I didn’t MEAN to get sucked into these books again but after one paragraph, it just happens!!
I was set to start a brand new series from an author I’ve recently discovered but somehow started reading book one and here I am, finishing book three and preparing to dive head first into book four as soon as I finish this review.
Go read Laurell. Read them ALLLLLLL!

I don't know really what to think about this book. It's interesting and original but there is to much erotic and 'empty air' and something is missing. I go straight to next book
This series just keeps getting better and better.
I picked this up as a light read for the spicy scenes, but stayed for the world building and for the fae court intrigue. SJM who? Laurell K. Hamilton won me over.

Re-reading the Merry Gentry series: a review.
I think this is my favorite this far, aside from the first. Still too much recap but the plot advances at a steady clip in this one, which makes up for it (almost).

This is another re-listen for me as I prepare for the newest Merry Gentry book, A Shiver of Light, that comes out in early June.
I've been a big fan of Ms. Hamilton for a long time now and have read both series religiously for years. I've stuck through the Anita Blake series when many walked away. There are somethings that aren't great, but I like the characters and the overall plot. I get annoyed with the endless descriptions of characters and their clothing at times. And yes, the sex can get carried away in the Anita series, not as much in this one, that I remember.
The one think that has always drove me nuts with these books is that the editing could use some work. When I say that, I don't mean grammar or punctuation. I mean that the same character in this book has two different names. Early in the book they refer to him as Whisper. Later they refer to him as Silence. It didn't seem to me as if it is two different names like Doyle and Darkness. It is almost like she forgot what she names him and this isn't the first time that I've noticed this. I think this is due tot he fact that she pushes deadlines and doesn't give enough time for editing. I saw on Facebook that she just wrote "The End" a few days ago for a book to be release in early June. That is four months to edit and publish, which seems extremely short. I really wish she would take the time to allow more editing to be sure that things less likely to happen. I know not every book is perfect, but to have two different names in the same book, is a little strange to me.
I love the worlds that Ms. Hamilton has created and I love most of the characters even more. I just feel when little things like this happen, it pulls me out of the fictional world that is created and takes something out of the story.

I can't wait for the book where she meets with the Seelie king.
This is the second book in LKH's Merry Gentry series that lacks a definitive plot.
"Merry and her Merry men" (*rolls eyes*) have moved into Maeve's guesthouse in a mutually beneficial arrangement that provides continuous protection for the now pregnant Maeve from Tanaris (Seelie King), and roomier living arrangements for Merry and . . . her Merry men.
Weird shit has been happening since they defeated the Nameless--the collection of wild fairy magic that Tanaris set on them in book 2.
Rhys and Doyle regained powers they had thought lost forever, and everyone else gained powers they had never had. Merry herself starts dreaming of the goddess and waking up with long lost Fae relics in her bed.
Long long Seelie Fae relics . . .
Eese a problemmmmm.
They're also preparing for trip to the sithen (fairy mound in which the Fae live) to visit not only the Unseelie, but the Goblins and the Seelie as well.
This is a 400 page book and they don't even begin the journey to the sithen until just past the midway point. That's 200 pages of filler, people. Necessary filler, perhaps, but filler nonetheless.
And even after they hit the road, there's still not a definitive plot.
A couple of chapters later, there's yet another assassination attempt on Merry, and that grows (and grows) into a multifaceted plot (plot as in "scheme," not plot as in point of book) to not only take out Merry, but perhaps Andais (Unseelie Queen) as well.
Ultimately, the conspirators are unmasked and executed, Merry gains MORE Merry men, and Andais's sanity is more questionable than ever.
They have yet to make it to the Seelie court, Cel is only halfway into his punishment, and Merry still isn't pregnant.
It's been years since I read this series, but I have to believe it gets better, or why would I have bothered rereading it the first time? But so far . . . two books that are essentially filler is two books too many. Hmph.
