Magic and mischief wreaking Havoc
Alice Winters takes urban fantasy and twists it a smidge. She gives us a taste and leaves us wanting more.
We are given more of Winter’s trademark humour. She brings humour to a lot of dark places and it works.
Miles is an extremely powerful mage who owns a coffee shop. He controls (?) Havoc, a demon. But their relationship is most definitely contentious. Think Aladdin and the Genie... except more Snark and more sex.
Miles is approached by the local police to find out why certain non humans are dying. He learns that somethings have not remained dead and he is determined to make it so.
The writing in this novel is fast paced and as I said, full of humour. Miles and Havoc trust each other but it takes them a while to understand that they love each other.
If you like your urban fantasy with suspense and humour, try out this delightful little gem.

Super fun and practically angst-free paranormal romance. I loved the banter, thought the characters were fun and enjoyed the dynamics. This is a very fluffy book, with a mostly-all-powerful-succeeds-at-everything MC, but that's exactly what I wanted to read.
I will say this needed an edit, there were a bunch of spelling mistakes and punctuation blunders. The steamy bits were fun but did feel a bit rushed, though I suppose that's in keeping with the quick pace of the book.

I have loved the previous Alice Winters' books I've read and I thought I'd love this. I didn't. It was so weird and disjointed and just not it at all.
The premise was interesting, but the writing was staggeringly poor

Alice Winters knocked it out of the park again. I laughed and smiled my way through this book, even though there are some tough subjects (past trauma) that are brought up because the MCs are working through them.

I started skimming heavily about halfway through the book. While the original plot premise was interesting, the characters and relationships fell very flat, and the bantering seemed very forced rather than naturally humorous. A lot of the snark actually detracted from the plot and was useless filler that didn't help move the pace along.
The writing did a lot of dry narrating, and the main characters did not have enough deep character development to help me understand why I should care about them and why they would ever actually care for each other. As far as I could tell, the only reason they started having intimate relations with each other was because Miles and his bonded demon Havoc didn't want to After that, the relationship just seemed like pure possessiveness and dancing around the topic in between having more smut scenes.
I didn't care for any of the characters, honestly, and many of the new concepts and side characters in the book were info-dumped in a very unexciting manner and left with pretty shallow surface characterization. I'm passing on the rest of the series.
