This is book 7 in the Rizzoli & Isles series. I recommend reading them in order . Tess Gerritsen is a doctor and uses her medical knowledge very well in this police procedural/medical mystery. It is a very creepy mystery, opening with the discovery of body thought to be an Egyptian mummy. The museum has arranged for a CT scan of the mummy. They have already determined the outer wrapping to be 2,000 years old through carbon dating. But the CT scan shows a bullet and they soon realize that this is a suspicious death. More horrific discoveries turn up, including shrunken heads. Detectives Rizzoli and Frost are assigned to the case and soon decide that they are looking for a serial killer with a taste for the macabre. This is a gripping thriller. I read it in two days, reading almost 300 pages on the second day.
Some quotes--
Forensic psychologist profiling the killer: "He didn't want to let them go, so he turns them into keepsakes that will last forever."
Detective Rizzoli: " He preserved her as a keepsake. She became part of his harem, Josephine, a harem of dead souls."
I rate this library book a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

The Keepsake had a unique and captivating topic and the story kept me turning the pages. The archaeology themes were foreign to me but Gerritsen did a great job explaining all the concepts without making it sound like a school lesson.

There wasn't much character development but since I was so interested in the story line, it didn't bother me.

My favourite of the series so far. First one that wasn't so predictable and had my brain working overtime.

Another good book in this series. I will continue reading more of this series. I like this author and her writing style. This installment kept me turning the pages past my bed time.

This one kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning, even though I had to wake up early!

I liked this one better than the last one in the series, but to be honest, I kept thinking of Lily in the last one and not Medea or Josephine, because both of the characters kept looking over their shoulders, had lived with for so long, and also were constantly on the run.

The twist at the end, I figured it out. I mean it was still a good whodunit kind of book and I will continue to read the rest in the series. But there was no character development in this one.

I felt pretty disappointed by that.

And what the heck did the butterflies on the front cover have to do with anything in the book?

It was about archaeology, not insects. It was about a mummy and petrifying corpses. Not about bugs. Sheesh.
