Una lectura muy dura, pero enternecedora al mismo tiempo.
Beautiful writing, but the message was something I would have been more impressed by when I was younger. Kinda generic message with unbelievable characters. I will read more Mishima because the prose is exquisite but I don't recommend this one specifically.
CW: Protracted, graphic scene of the killing of a cat and removing its organs. It was disturbing.

I think i’m too stupid for books like this. It was beautifully written - even I can acknowledge that - but I can’t say anything about the hidden meanings / the bigger picture of things.

2.5 star
Before I start, I want to point out that the writing style was extraordinary. However, because Mishima was obsessed with fascism, his ideas were everywhere in the story. The novel was more about politics than fiction, and because I don’t like to read about fascism thus, I can’t give over 2.5.
I have to say the book has lots of content warnings and I would suggest reading the trigger warning first.
(The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with Sea) starts with the perspective of a young boy whose mother dates a sailor. Our protagonist was thirteen years old named Noboru. He was doing strange and psychotic things that were hard to comprehend. The sailor falls in love with the Noboru later on. He concedes everything for the sake of the boy. Noboru hates it. Because he believes, the sailor abandoned his masculinity.
From Mishima’s viewpoint, the sailor is Japan which has lost its masculine muster. He wants power back. He wants the honor and strength back. From those schemes, Mishima committed seppuku after attempting and failing a military coup.
Overall, I didn’t enjoy the novel, even though the writing style was absolute. It was breathtaking and magnificent. And honestly, I will read more books from Mishima in the future that is for sure, because it is hard to judge from one book.
