I really liked how Mishima described the scenes within the story - especially in the last act; as I can remember the way he writes the sunset/atmosphere is really vivid

a dark, disturbing, and deceptively lucid read. I however, found it best read against the themes Mishima espouses - Noboru in particular I found more pathetic the more he descended into violence. Placed against the author's real life ideologies, this book reads to me as a powerful critique of the masculine urge to violence and stoicism.

There is a lot of substance in this book, and a lot of interesting points, but it wasn't really for me. Maybe I don't have the brain capacity to understand a lot of what this book is trying to say, or I just got bored. I can see how someone may love this book though!

While the writing was brilliant, it simply didn't appeal to me. It took me a long time to finish this book. Other people might be able to enjoy it and find the subject intriguing but I simply cannot. For me, it was not an enjoyable read.

In summary, it was about Wanna be 13 year old disgusting edgelords getting upset when their sigma male role model turns out to be a normal adult while the mother is just kind of there.

Mishima never disappoints. I loved his musings about the sea, and his explorations of youth, and the innocence that is so often ascribed to it, when in reality youth is often a pit of viciousness with only the Veneer of innocence, and the exploration of that theme was incredibly potent. Excited to continue my read through of his work.
