Devastating, enthralling, and beautifully-written. Another home run. I finished the last half in 24 hours and was left crying in a creperie. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

I love that this story added depth to one of the most memorable characters of the series. There were a lot of shocking/suspenseful moments that kept me engaged and wanting to read more. However, it felt like there was too much buildup before the Hunger Games even started and then the action started moving too fast and at times became repetitive in format (ex: the use of different types of mutts, deaths of tributes). I also thought there were way too many song lyrics, especially at the end when I was impatient for the loose ends to be wrapped up.
Also, I thought Lenore’s death was not believable enough. <\spoiler> Overall though, I think this was a good addition to the series.

I sobbed many times. Suzanne Collins knocked this out of the park. Haymitch was always an interesting character in THG, so getting to know his heartbreaking backstory feels like an honor. His younger self seriously comes to life, and the addition of multiple recognizable names really developed the world and history of the rebellion in ways I didn’t expect.
