Didn’t finish. Stopped around pg 250. Not a fan of the writing style or characters. But I am a bit interested in learning how it ends. Pick it up again another time? Or Wikipedia? We shall see..

It is funny how a book that seemed interminably long over the 9 months I spent reading it could seem all too short when it ended. I can't decide if I want to hug Scarlett or slap her, but I definitely loved the book. I think I will finally come to love the movie, now that I know the rest of the story. Gone with the Wind lives up to all you would expect of it and more, and surely deserves its place among the classics. Now, go read it yourself.

The story is an interesting look into Confederate society but even taking it as a product of the time Margaret Mitchell's treatment of black characters is difficult to read. Overtly racist tones and language throughout, while painting a rather idealistic view of the institution of slavery. I appreciated Scarlett's tenacity but found her hard to like as she's about as selfish as they come.

there’s something so compelling about a book with zero likable characters! I think it was an entertaining read, but it shouldn’t be romanticized given the setting and time period.

Wow. This book was awesome in many ways, but detestable in others. Scarlett was an absolute brat and deserved what she got. However...how could you not wish that Scarlett would change, and everything could be happy at the end? Right after I finished the book, I went downstairs and asked Mommy if Margaret Mitchell had intended to write a second book when she finished the first. Mommy said she didn't know, but now I am going to get the second book to see what happens!

Looking at the book from a different standpoint, it was marvelous in it's historical facts, and characters and their development and relations with the other characters.
