I absolutely loved this book! Michael Grant pulled through again with an amazing 5th book. I must say the last 80 pages were my favourite but that is where a lot of the problems happen or are resolved. There were some plot twists especially the ending. Just WOW! All the characters are developing which is awesome. Dekka for example a head strong girl was actually scared and wanted to die. I am excited to find out what happens in the end. Do they make it out of the FAYZ? And what about everyone watching what willl they think when they see how the children live? Soo many questions about Gaia and everything that the only way to answer them is to read... Light!

Okay now THAT'S how you end a book to prepare you for the final endgame for the last book! I forgot how good this book was which was much better than Plague I have to say. I won't say much because of spoilers for those who still want to read this series after some years, but I will say I'm seriously happy with myself that I caved and reread these and now listening to them before starting the spinoff trilogy first book being [b:Monster|26082351|Monster (Monster, #1)|Michael Grant|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1486999686l/26082351._SY75_.jpg|46021160] and just glad there's only 3 of those I have to deal with and get over with. After reading the synopsis for the new trilogy, I'm excited to pick those up and see what happens beyond the FAYZ. Highly recommend this series!

What the hell just happened?!?!
The dome grows black because the gaiaphage is dying but it sees hope in being born in Diana’s baby so it sends drake/brittany after it. Meanwhile Caine and Sam have their territories and for the past 3-4 months Astrid has been camping. Astrid got better in this book but I highly doubt she won’t revert back to her annoying self in the last book. Also WE GOT TO SEE OUTSIDE THE DOME?!?! So some of what the gaiaphage said in LIES was true?!?! And Petey did show the outside too?!?! All hell breaks loose as the dome completely blackens and there is a lot of chaos but let’s see, petey is some spirit that can mess with peoples DNA and he turns Taylor into pretty much solid gold as well as kills a few people, penny is used as the punisher in caines town and goes to far and then goes insane and captures Caine momentarily before teaming up with Brittany/drake. Howard died. WE FIND OUT EDILIO IS GAY AND WITH RODGER WHICH IS THE BEST NEWS!!! That boy deserves some love and good!! We learn that petey used the gaiaphage literally to make the dome and that now he doesn’t have the same powers since his body is gone. Sam is declared the warrior instead of the leader and he and Astrid finally have sex (which I am 10000% sure she’ll be guilty about later). Dekka and Brianna sort of reconcile and we aren’t really sure about Brianna’s feelings for Jack (who might be dead thanks to drake and his whip). The big ending is the gaiaphage gets Diana and forces her to grow and give birth to her baby months early and then possesses it basically, named gaia. Gaia then continues to grow and mature over the course of like 45 minutes to be about 2 years old and can fling people and is a 4 bar. The dome starts to crack (and maybe sustains a nuke explosion on the outside thanks to the military) and then it goes CLEAR. The adults witness a dead penny and Sam trying to burn an “innocent” toddler who manages to live and Gaia, Diana, Brittany/drake run off into the desert. Sam’s mom saw him and Caine. Astrid’s parents show up asking about petey. Sam then incinerates penny’s body with everyone watching as basically a “you know nothing dumb adults, ask your questions, pass you judgements, and go fuck your self” and they head back to town to figure shit out. Also we learned that Connie had intended on keeping both Sam and David (Caine) but had post partum and became convinced Caine was evil. She got better but when her husband TEAGAN SMITH died in the meteorite accident at the plant(!!!!) she spiraled again and eventually gave Caine up for adoption.  Also she’s not sure that Caine and Sam are full sibs as she was having an affair at the time. Wild.
Gaia is fucking terrifying!! My literal nightmare. Now that she’s out and about I have no idea how the series is supposed to end in a book?!?! This book took the series and said let’s fuck shit up! Wow.

Seriously incredible. There's a good reason this series has been my favorite for over a decade.

WHAT.

First of all, I'm not freaking out because of how bad or good the book was, but because of the info I learned.
SpoilerHOW CAN GAIA BE THE DARKNESSES HOLDER??? NO!
The reason I rated this a three is because it's getting really boring. The same things are happening, although the mutations(etc.) may be somewhat different. The thing that made me rate it a three is the surprise in the end which I absolutely loved! That was awesome! I can't believe everyone can now see the people in Pete's sphere. So yeah, that big bang made me love this book a bit more. I just hope [b:Light|8811139|Light (Gone, #6)|Michael Grant|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1331533067s/8811139.jpg|13685373] is more surprising and different. Otherwise, a pretty good book!

P.S. Merry Christmas! :P

we're headed into endgame territory and i legitimately cannot remember how it all comes to a close from when i read it in high school. still fast paced and exciting. still horrific. but a fascinating read nonetheless

It’s hard to remember specifics from individual books in a series as long as this but I think the series was really good at building tension, and I wouldn’t say that any particular book was irrelevant to the story
