I really love C.S. Lewis’ style of writing. It is so accessible. I found the first parts of this book very encouraging to my faith. The last part was a little more philosophical and so I didn’t connect with it in the same way. On the odd occasion I disagreed with him but mainly I felt my faith was strengthened by reading this book. I need to read it again to underline or tab the best quotes.

I am hard pressed to say exactly why this book is getting five stars from me. It is in the conversational tone. It is in Lewis's word choice. It is because he manages to distill many of the core concepts and goals of Christianity down to simple, everyday language. It is because I agree with him, even when I don't want to. Christianity at its core seeks to make its followers like Jesus Christ, and the process is not always how we want it to be. Lewis preaches this again and again throughout the book, and sparked a desire within me to seek to be more Christ-like, even as he reminded me that the journey will not be easy... But it is necessary.

While I didn’t agree with every single idea in this book, on the whole it makes a lot of sense to me. I have always considered myself a Christian, but through the reading of this book have discovered a few of my own errors in thinking and will now work to correct them.

This is THE book that got my mind churning, thinking about life, history, the universe, humanity, and my own mind. Everything is clearly explained, as the book is packed full of humor and helpful analogies. I found myself rereading paragraphs to make sure I got the point in its entirety. It is simple to understand and will get you thinking about everything you've ever thought about. It is not insulting either; Lewis offers criticism of both elements of Christianity and elements of atheism with respect to each (although of course he is arguing and counter-arguing against atheism).

Very soon after I read this book, I could no longer call myself an atheist. I'm on my second read-through currently and I am enjoying it even more so than the first!
