Shirley Jackson, I love you.... but this wasn't it. Too short!! Her usual skill of creating tension was on full display... the juxtaposition of the Allison's attitude and the village people's odd reactions, services the couple depends on slowly bleeding out, a storm slowly moving in throughout the whole story, details being repeated over and over again, aaaaaand it all amounts to basically nothing. Maybe I just need to read a full-length novel again, keep chasing the high of Haunting of Hill House.
