Kingdom Come

-1 Star: Style
A tribute to the inherited legacy of comics. The central characters serve as symbols, as Waid/Ross consider the future of a universe built around them. It's moving and beautifully illustrated. However the stylistic decision, a departure from the bright colored optimist of the Silver Age, is a bit polarizing. This is one of the greatest DC novels. It leans on knowledge of the established icons to succeed. That could leave some readers behind. I think it's enjoyable.

One of the greatest Justice League stories ever told with some of the best art you’ll ever experience in any comic book.

This was fun. Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross is a visually stunning, thought-provoking take on the DC Universe’s future. Set in a world where the classic heroes are aging and a new, reckless generation has taken over, the story explores legacy, power, and responsibility with real weight.

Alex Ross’s painted art is breathtaking—every panel looks like a mural, adding a mythic quality that elevates the whole story. The plot is packed with big ideas and iconic moments, though at times it leans a little heavily on exposition.

Still, it’s a fun and powerful read with emotional depth, I expect especially for longtime DC fans. That was a bit of a struggle for me as I had to look up who several characters were… that said, the character work itself is strong, the stakes feel real, and the ending lands with impact. A 4-star epic that balances heart, spectacle, and commentary.

o monumento.

sempre.

The art is what puts it over the top for me. I like the grandiose feel of it well enough, but the art is what caught me.

I personally like the way it plays to audiences of all levels of DC universe knowledge. I lend it out regularly to people that claim not to like comic books. Usually they return it admitting that at least they like this one.

If you’re going to read one comic it’s gotta be Kingdom Come, unlike a lot of occasions where expectations are the thief of joy and bearer of disappointment, I’ve have been hyping KC in my head for 20 years and it was better than I ever imagined 5/5 stars
