Kingdom Come

The art of this book is very interesting. It seems more like a watercolor or acrylic painting, so there aren't the solid ink lines of most comics. It's an interesting change from the standard.

The story was decent. The new guard of heroes lack the manners of the old guard, which creates tensions between the heroes and humans. Superman and the old guard come storming back, but the conflict between these three groups threatens to destroy the world. However, I feel that my lack of familiarity with the DC Universe of heroes may be part of the reason why the plot did not engage me too much. One concept did strike me as interesting though, the idea that the ubiquity of heroes leading to an infantilized, powerless humanity. This idea raised the hackles of Lex Luthor and Batman and helped advance the story well.

I think one thing that nagged me was the question of why the old guard of heroes like Superman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman would have trouble dealing with the upstarts. I suppose it was because they had to contain their adversaries rather than savagely and swiftly dispatching them and that maintaining these standards of decency are the root of the entire conflict between the heroic factions. Still, in my mind, what could challenge Superman?

dont get me wrong, this run was definently good. but the fact that the most popular opinion on this book is so high is a bit.. weird? i dont know, i did think the book evoked alot of thought and deep critique on both the comic book world and culture and real life, however it just doesnt stand out to me personally. i would reread this and even reccemond it to people but i feel like its just "good" and not "amazing"
