dominic davenport is actually unwell and i was eating it up. this man is down so bad it's almost embarrassing. his wife hands him divorce papers and instead of accepting it like a normal person, he fully goes into obsessed mode. she walks away and he follows. she breathes near another man and he’s already plotting his downfall. i was howling.
he’s so in love it hurts. and the groveling? oh it was beautiful. he cries, begs, flies halfway across the world just to be near her. and the best part? it’s not just talk. he puts in the work. he realizes where he went wrong and tries to fix it. not in a manipulative way, but in a quiet, aching “you’re my entire world and i didn’t see it until it was too late” kind of way. i got way too emotionally attached.
and alessandra? please. queen. she did not come to play. she made this man grovel and plead and suffer before even considering taking him back. she was in her “i know my worth” era and i respected her so much for it. she didn’t let him slide back in just because he cried. he had to show real change and earn every piece of her back.
∘₊✧the characters✧₊∘
alessandra was so strong and grounded. she didn’t let the heartbreak break her. instead she glowed up, set boundaries, and took control. i loved how she stayed firm even when it was clear she still loved him. she didn’t make it easy and she was right not to.
dominic absolutely broke me. this man was feral. obsessed. he was out here publicly begging, flying across oceans, crying actual tears just for a chance to win her back. and the thing is, it didn’t feel fake. he was fully destroyed without her. he had to confront his own ego and failure and it made the groveling hit harder.
the “ále…” moments? his quiet voice when he said her name? i was giggling and kicking my feet like a fool.
∘₊✧the plot✧₊∘
so it’s a marriage in trouble story where they’ve grown apart and now he’s trying to claw his way back into her life. the angst is constant. the tension is unbearable in the best way. every time i thought they’d finally fix things, something pulled them apart again and i ate up the emotional suffering.
the emotional intimacy was everything. this book wasn’t just spicy or dramatic, it really focused on healing and learning how to love better. they fall back in love slowly and painfully and it made every soft moment hit so hard.
and honestly? it was the right book at the right moment. so easy to read, so addictive. maybe it’s not the most popular in the series but it gave me exactly what i wanted. something dramatic, messy, full of feelings, and not too heavy. it was fast paced and just enough without making me overthink. i needed that.
could the groveling have gone harder? yes. absolutely. but it still scratched the itch. i needed a man on his knees, confessing how he’d tear the world apart for her, and dominic gave me that.
∘₊✧why 4 stars?✧₊∘
okay so yes, dominic and alessandra were everything. but the rest of the plot? i didn’t care. like roman who? what business stuff? i was fully zoned out every time the book focused on anything that wasn’t their emotional mess.
also the ending was too fast. i wanted a longer resolution. the way it wrapped up felt rushed after all that buildup. we needed more time to sit in the softness after all the pain. like 50 more pages would’ve made a huge difference.
and i won’t lie, some scenes made me laugh just because dominic was being so dramatic. like calm down sir. but also don’t. because i loved every pathetic moment.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
tldr : if you love watching men fall apart for the love of their life, you’re gonna love dominic davenport. he cried, begged, groveled and alessandra made him work for every single inch. this book may not be the fan favorite but it was exactly what i needed. easy to read, emotionally satisfying, and full of tension. 4 stars because i didn’t care for the extra plot, but the romance? absolutely worth it.

This is my favourite Anna Huang book so far. Absolutely the best of the king of sin series. I had a great time here! I love that they already have an established relationship. I love that home girl chooses herself and leaves her husband that chooses work over her. I LOVED watching him fight for her and change his ways. I loved his friends calling him out and him learning to respect her choices even when it breaks his heart. This was a very enjoyable read. I would've appreciated a slightly different epilogue, but I don't expect ground breaking writing here LOL in here for entertainment and that's what I got
