Phil is the model of every single side character in Gilmore Girls.
The Janet and John Douglas C-plot is excruciatingly dull. Poor Diana is engaged and has thus been dropped. Marilla gets less time than Rachel Lynde. And I frankly got tired of the moralizing and Anne’s general perfection. No longer does she fall into scrapes; instead, she’s perfection personified.
The college experience and Patty’s Place is lovely, as is the final, long overdue chapter. But I believe I shall leave my reread here and call it a day.

Loved this one! Wasn’t a fan of the second book in the series but I loved following Anne’s college journey in this one.

In Anne of the Island, we finally get to see Anne go off to college. We get to meet many new interesting characters, such as Phil and Ms. Jimsie. Seeing her friendship with the girls in college is charming and sweet. I find it funny that Anne didn't like the cat, Rusty, at first, but he loves Anne. That is how it is in real life. Cats always go for the person who doesn't like them. At this point in their lives, everyone is starting to become romantically involved: Diana, Phil, and even Anne. Anne and Gilbert have a little bit of a romance going on, but then there are rumors of him being engaged. However, at the end of the book, we learn that he is sick, which frightens Anne. She ends up going to Gilbert and nuturing him back to health. In the last chapter, we learn that they are engaged and finally realized their feelings for each other. It seems like Anne will return to teaching in the next book. I'm interested to see how Anne's life unfolds now that she will be back in Green Gables and how Gilbert and her navigate life.
