This is my second time experiencing this book (this time through the masterful narration of Jennifer Ikeda) and I love it even more this time. Hell, I might buy the audio formats to round of my collection of this book in all forms.
okay so i will still ATTEMPT to continue this series but i really hate diana and this trope shit. like when she was dying i was hoping that she would just be ended there and boom over with her but nope i did not get that lucky.
WHY is it the "hit" thing to make super strong female characters who 1) have no clue how to use their power / doesn't want the power, 2) gives up every 3 fucking seconds about everything and whines about it, 3) RELIES ON A BOY FOR EVERYTHING??????, 4) claims to be in love with said boy and turns into the most annoying ass character where "everything she does is for him" even almost killing her own family for him whom she has known for 3 WEEKS. words cannot describe how disgustingly she makes me feel.
the reasons i am even giving it 2 stars is because i really really like miriam and marcus. i wish the book trilogy followed them instead. matthew is okay and i'll admit i did like him in the beginning but as i read on, holy fuck is he toxic as hell. id deck any man who tells me that i have to obey him at all times and blames it on his "protective instincts". i get he is a vampire and ancient but who cares. diana is weak to fall to that. there was so many things i disliked with this novel that i'm just praying the rest of the series can fix. they mention ashmole 782 or whatever in the beginning then somehow it is not mentioned for the rest of the book until like the last chapter. when i thought that all this was what the book is supposed to be about but it just seemed to follow matthew and diana's weird ass entrapment with each other. mans LITERALLY gets feral when her own aunts touch her like that's some serious problems and red flags if you ask me. idk, if diana was actually likeable i feel that this book would be slightly better but she is not and it's just kinda poorly written as there are plenty of loose ends. everybody is secretive as hell and they all refuse to tell each other which i feel that if they did, shit could be solved in maybe two books.
i finished this book a few hours ago and i'm still frustrated with it LMFAO. common sense does not exist with diana. she was told her relationship with matthew would have the congregation kill her family and matthews and she basically just shrugs and says "okay cool, i want to be with him anyways"
im tired and ive seen bad reviews of the 2nd book so im not looking forward to it but i have to finish this series now. im determined only for marcus and miriam.
