Meh. That's about all the emotion I could muster for the entirety of this book. I know the author was trying really hard to make this compelling, but when you basically tell the reader everything at the beginning, and the plot points are so predictable, and you switch from points of view that seem too perfect and thus give everything away, it's hard to muster enthusiasm. It would have been a fun read if it wasn't kinda boring, and to be honest, if I didn't have a thing about not finishing easy reads, I probably would've stopped with this one.

boring!!! lol seriously. the plot was so generic and flat that the book was really hard to get through. the storyline sounded really good, but then you sit down to read it and it sucks. not much else to say other than I hate when books have a heroine who can't stand up for herself, it bugs me a lot.

It is either just not my type or REALLY bad, because I hate the writing, I hate how the clichés are put, I hate the MC. I know I shouldn't expect a masterpiece in just, like, one chapter, but I think the first chapters of a book are the most important, just like the first 10 minutes of a movie or the first line of a song. They'll show you the characters, the story and what to expect, they'll try to make you want to stay and know what comes next. And this book only showed me things I feel like I've seen a thousand times before in other stories, Twilight-movie-DVD-recorded-at-a-cinema-with-a-techpix-camera vibes and plain characters I've read in fanfics when I was 12y/o, but worse. I'm up to discuss that, because I might be underestimating the book by my first impression of it.

book was slow paced, the characters weren't well developed, and the story was confusing.

i was tempted to put the book down many times, but kept hoping the story would get better, but it never did.
Sebastien was annoying, Evie has the 'poor me, love me' thing going on . the only character i really liked was Helen, but you never really got to know any of characters except for Lady Agnes. all in all i thought the book was drawn out and boring.

Evie has been shipped off to the elite and mysterious Wyldcliffe boarding school after her Grandmother, who has raised her since her Mother's death, falls ill. Her Father is being deployed and signs her up at the Gothic style boarding school. Upon arrival to the town where the school is located, she comes face to face with Sebastian. They form a secret relationship and meet at night. She thinks she has found the perfect romance to take her mind off of the bullies and strict rules of the school. As you read further into the book, you start to realize that Sebastian is hiding many secrets, ones he is not proud of, and the book explodes with suspense, mystery and supernatural experiences.

At first, I was a little confused with the book. It kept switching from present time to a past life of the owners of the Wyldcliffe Mansion. It was a bit predictable, yet it captured my interest. As I kept reading, more of the mystery started to unravel and make sense. It's a bit of a stretch of a story, but the author does well weaving it together into a whole. Even though the ending felt abrupt and left much to be desired, the characters give you the chill factor of creepy and mysterious. Not too bad if you are looking for a quick and spooky read around this time of year.

This was just... meh

Oh yes, let’s just sneak outside of the school through underground tunnels to meet this boy who appeared out of nowhere. Hmm, he barely even gives me his name... I think I must love him. Oh, he actually murdered my ancestor because he was power greedy, I feel so bad for him and, look at that, I still love him, even though he ALSO leads a cult in the school who murdered another student. Ah, to be young and in love.

So I liked this book a lot! You guys might not have liked it but I thought it well thought. The foreshadowing was always enough to keep you thinking a million theories but never able to pinpoint it. The only problem I found with it really was that the ending was rushed. I felt like it was at a steady pace and then 3/4 the way through she realized it was getting long and needed to be finished. Besides that I loved it and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
