I was honestly worried that I was unable to enjoy YA fantasy as much anymore because I have had a run in with a streak of mediocre books, but I really did love this book. I mean, it’s still meant for a group of people younger than me so I definitely took that into account when rating it. I loved the fat representation in this book, as well as the fact that it wasn’t gonna shy away from emotional moments. I really wish I had read this in high school when I really needed to see someone of my size in a fantasy book. Anyway, my brain is melted from exams in school so this isn’t totally coherent but what can you do
it wasn't bad but also wasn't great either. the magic system could have been better developed and some characters fell a bit flat for me i really couldn't care less when Humberto died. i don't hate him neither do i like him... so his death was a pretty "whatever" moment for me (also very predictable. he was too bland of a love interest to have survived so long.)
I got to page 259. I can't finish this story. It's incredibly boring, the magic system doesn't make sense, and the characters have no personality. I love that Elisa is different from usual protagonists, but the difference dwindles away after traveling from point B to C. I can't connect to any of the characters, and if I don't connect I don't consider a story worth reading. Because I don't care what happens to them.
I want to like it. Elisa does some incredible things and develops throughout the narrative. But the story is disengaging. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for a story like this, but I don't think I'll ever finish.

I am SO excited I finally picked up this book! Thinking a bit for the review, but it is definitely forthcoming:)
