I received an advanced copy of this book from #NetGalley. I really enjoyed it but it was more of a slow start than I typically like. I persevered though and I’m so glad I did because I stayed up too late into the night to finish it. Early on in the book, it took some time to adjust to this author’s proper English from the very Americanized English style that I’m accustomed to. I loved the concept of the book and found myself awaiting how/if the main characters would find themselves and each other in the end. I would absolutely recommend adding this to your next must read!
Oh my God. I don't think I've ever disliked both main characters in a book as much as I did with this one. Both of them were so immature considering for most of the book, they were in their late 20s, lacked communication, and set standards for their partner, that they, themselves did not meet/got mad at their partner for doing something that they did earlier in the book.
I disliked Ash more. He complained that Ellie was leaving him when he needed her, right after he left her when she needed him and then he basically ignored her for days while she dealt with the aftermath of a decision he made, without talking to her first, including the possibility of ruining her life and her job. And then later on he also got upset when she made a decision without talking to him about it first. He also kept choosing his ex-girlfriend/female best friend over her so much after the FMC and MMC became official. Ash was so pushy and gave her no reason to actually like him, but somehow, she was obsessed. And then at the end, he didn't reach out to the FMC at all to clarify anything with all of the rumors and when things were being cleared up, and the FMC tried to reconnect (since the MMC wasn't doing anything), he said he couldn't forgive her because she left him when he needed him.....even though he did the same thing to her.....
And in the end, we still have the unsolved case of the missing book that belonged to Ellie's deceased best friend, that Ash lost on his first day having it. You can tell he really cherished a heartfelt gift that Ellie gave to him.
I don't know. I just didn't like this. But I did finish it at least.
