Every Last Fear

3.8 AVERAGE

Solid for a twisty mystery.

4.5 stars rounded up. What a fun read. And in summary with the entire story (for my later benefit as I always forget)...

Matt finds out his family is found dead in Mexico. Their family is well known from a documentary about his older brother, Danny, who was convicted of killing his high school girlfriend.
He was browbeat to confess by the cops.

Matt's sister Maggie and Dad never give up on the case and pursue it years into the future, and that's why they are in Mexico. Maggie got a video of the night of the party, and Dad got a face time call with the victim?!? They were actually lured to Mexico to be killed to cover for the real murderer who was a high school friend, Kyle... or so you think! The last pages reveal it's probably Noah! Noah is the mom's high school boyfriend and the interim governor and trying to help them exonerate Danny. In actuality, he is the parent of the victim's baby and had blood records switched, but one of the interrogation cops gave proof to the mom!! Family puts it all together the night they are killed because Dad knows its not Danny's blood because it's the wrong type. How does he know?!? Because his youngest son belongs to Noah as a result of an affair, and he found out when the son was having surgery. There were all kinds of mess going on here!

Fine. Seemed like a lot of loose ends of ideas disguised as red herrings.

This is a very low 3 because the book was slow, the ending was convoluted and the twists were unimaginative in the most pitiful way.

THIS is what I look for in a thriller! It’s been a while since I had a heart-racing, stay-up-too-late, can’t-put-it-down read but Every Last Fear did it!!

From the very first line “They found the bodies on a Tuesday”, I was drawn in. In the prologue we learn about a family that died on vacation in what seems like an awful accident. But was it an accident?

The Pines were well known from a documentary about their oldest son Danny who is in prison for murdering his girlfriend 7 years ago. Many people believe in his innocence after seeing the documentary and Danny’s family has never given up on trying to get him released.

I was on the edge of my seat through this whole book and loved the way the story was revealed in alternating timelines. Highly recommend! Thank you to Minotaur and Netgalley for the free advanced reading copy.

Good read! As other reviewers have said - captivating from the first sentence - “they found the bodies on Tuesday” - From there the story is relentless in the pursuit of the truth. Good character development, like-able protagonist and other supporting characters. Figured out ‘who done it’ midway, but, still a good read. Find it. Read it. Love it.
