I just couldn't get into this story. I really struggled from page one to feel something, anything, for these characters.

I enjoyed Poppy's sense of independence, very modern for this period, but even that wasn't enough to win her character over to me.

And Archer is such a study in contradictions. He feels, he doesn't, he feels, he doesn't. I feel like I have whiplash.

Honestly there's so much about this book that I normally wouldn't love (like the continued misunderstandings when the members of the couple make it ALL ABOUT THEMSELVES). But the writing is absolutely lovely and this book has somehow catapulted to one of the top romances I've read this year. Absolutely marvelous and I am excited to dive in to the sequel!!

I really enjoyed this dark Historical Romance that has a strong, independent female lead and a morally grey hero. There may be aspects in here that could be viewed as “cheating”, depending on how you view it. All in all though, an entertaining and very steamy read.

Wow. This book felt very emotional and and super angsty. In a good way. It was outside the normal bounds of historical romance and maybe that added to the characters feeling more realistic than is often the case.

Some people feel there is cheating in this book and if you’re sensitive about that, then you may want to skip this one. I don’t care for cheating in books, but the situation in this book didn’t bother me.

I absolutely adored Poppy and how she was allowed to be a real person and tried to encourage Westmead to be as well.

I fell into this romance and was glad read Peckham’s first book. However, the more I think about this, the more uncomfortable I am. Is this really an HEA or is it only temporary? These two, Poppy and Westmead, come with a lot of baggage. I don’t know if they will be good for one another. I know that I am expending a lot of energy on fictional characters, but I am not happy about leaving them where they are.

Probably the best trashy romance novel i've read in ages. It was perfect for me- a very slow burn romance and story. Didn't want it to end!

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance novel. It is also unique in that there's BDSM in it (all very safe feeling).

being when he cheats on his wife by going back to Charlotte Street, which she then SEES and instead of being devastated she has some kind of dominatrix awakening, they reunite and have some kinky spanking. It was just a little too quick, and didn't satisfy in the same way that him confessing his needs/desires to her and learning together would have had.
