I'm going to focus on the surprise/twist/whatever you want to call it because that is by far the most interesting part of the book for me - firstly I was not surprised whatsoever when Maxim revealed that he had killed Rebecca. I don't know if I had heard it somewhere in the past and then forgotten it but it still lived somewhere in the depths of my mind or if it truly was just predictable, but I read it with a completely blank face, just thinking "yeah, figures". The thing that DID shock me, however, was when we were told that Rebecca wasn't actually nice or loved or any of the things that we had been lead to believe about her. NOW THAT'S A TWIST! Everything after that truly did seem different - just like the protagonist, I had been fearing for her place at Manderley prior to that reveal, and once she knew the truth I immediately felt much more at ease about it all.

I love it. I can't believe I had a thought of DNF-ing it because of that long full of description first chapter.

It's a thick book but I think all of the things in it is necessary. If anything I want it to be longer because I ended up really loving the romance and there wasn't much of it! I want more of the romance!

I love that this book is slow and taking its time. This book also made me angry and frustrated and anxious especially because of some secondhand embarrassments that made me had to put it down for a while because I CAN'T. I am also feel like being so called out by this book because the main character's personality has a lot of similarities with me ughh although I also screamed at her for a lot of stuff that she did, but I knew it would pay off because we already "see the future" when the book started, so this book was like the main character telling us the story of her past, so it comforted me. So yeah. I love it and now I'm gonna look for some fanfiction of it on the internet because I do really need more of this romance.

Classic gothic fiction.  Growing sense of horror.

I just did not enjoy this. I thought it was boring and nothing happened in the first like 250 to 300 pages in. Also the main character who we never learn the name of for some reason is so boring and thinks to much about nothing. I did not enjoy the writing style like I know it’s a classic but it wasn’t for me. Also the incest that nobody comments on like what?? I do have to say I did not see one thing coming but I was so bored I literally didn’t care.  Oh and it had black face which is not ok.
