Important snapshot into history, and the roots of modern struggles

This book deserves to be part of the Canon of American literature and thought.

When I first picked this book up, I expected sociological sketches or historical essays. What I got were some of the most moving essays I've read in my life. Dubois sets out to address as many of the issues that affect Black Americans. In doing do, he lays out one of the greatest works of literature, politics, and sociology.

Essential reading. It should be part of our core reading in high school; it is shameful that I did not know of Du Bois and his writings until I was in my late 30's. (woops, my privilege is showing. I kid, but it is not really a funny thing.) I have no wise words or poignant things to say that others have not already extolled about this book. I am merely adding my voice to the chorus. This needs to be read. We all need to hear the voices of from more perspectives then we generally do (that is male, white, cis, etc...).

A masterpiece. Powerful and meaningful work of writing, essential to anyone's reading list, especially those devoted to anti racism, liberation, and African American history.
