This book is definitely worth a read or listen. Unless you’re a historian or WWI buff, WWI is often considered solely as the precursor to WWII. The events of WWI exist and are often told through the context of what they lead to or what was to come. This book didn’t do that and it was for the best. The author built the tension between the perspective of the U-boat and the Lusitania. The chapters covering the sinking were horrific and staggering. I had no concept of how awful this tragedy was and how much the victims suffered. Highly recommend this book

EXCELLENT. i’d never call myself a history buff, but i’ve been deeply interested in shipwrecks since i was a kid, which is why i really wanted to read this. so so well written and riveting in its storytelling and it all HAPPENED. the way this was written contextualizes everything incredibly. it makes a lot of dense and interconnected histories and backstories palatable, and really perfectly paints a picture of the absolute magnitude of the lusitania, what it represented, and how it’s birth, death, and legacy are essential to history.

Found it a little too focused on tiny details for the first 75 pages or so, but it started to really pick up after that.
