Still peculiar and perhaps too whimsically, willfully weird, but still enjoyable for all that.

I guess I liked this book...I'm not really sure how to feel about it?! This book does have a kind of nostalgic quirky quality to it that I enjoyed, and there were some genuinely funny moments, with some clever word play that I appreciated. But, while imaginative and original, this book felt increasingly less and less like an intentional experiment with form and more and more like a rambly mess, with no direction...and I get that this may be the point, but I just didn't like it and I much preferred the first 1/2 of this book, over the last few chapters, which to be honest, felt pretty pointless.

The art in this edition is another story...I've liked Dali since High School, where I used to sit on the floor in the back of the Library's art section and flip through some of his collections. So when I saw this edition I just new that this was the version for me! I loved the surreal and almost aggressive seeming artwork that Dali produced to go alongside this story. The colors were punchy and engaging and the subject matter/scenes were broadly interpreted, leaving room for the reader to make their own interpretations on what was being illustrated. There were even a few that I would frame!

Overall, I give the writing and story 2.5 stars and the art 4 stars.

Alice in Wonderland is a book written in the Victorian era. Despite this, the book is a stark departure from normal Victorian structures within prose. It is sporadic, comical, and incredibly witty. The tone is very funny and reflects a childlike wonder.

It does appear to present with drug paraphernalia, however, I think this was a deliberate attempt for Carol to depict the nature of dreams. Dreams tend to be nonsensical, fast paced and full of drama and eclectic randomness. I think this book reflects this very strongly rather than the drug theory.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable book that took me back to my childhood and I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting it.

I absolutely looove Alice in wonderland, it has always been a comfort story for me and ive loved the movies as long as I can remember. The edition I read also included through the looking glass which I also loved, it’s not as good as Alice in wonderland in my opinion but it was really good too, I think I would give that one 4 or 4.5 just by itself

It’s a cosy and strange piece of literature but I love it and Alice’s main goal in life is not to take it too seriously so I dont think this work needs to be analysed too seriously either tbh

It’s an old classic but in my opinion it holds upp perfectly to this day and everyone should read it no matter how old you are because it teaches the importance of dreams, imagination, question the strange and accept the weirdness in the world. It also shows that risks are worth it because it has rewards, going down the rabbit hole was a big risk but it leads to a magical journey. It talks about who you are and figuring out yourself, not getting stuck in the past and standing up for yourself. All these things are beautifully discussed in this book and I love it, again - it is a perfect read for anyone.

It’s written as a children’s fantasy book but it’s fun to think about the adult references with the magic mashroom and the little bottle of ”drink me” and other drug references, I just imagine the author and his friends sitting around talking about ideas for this

“but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”

Read it together with Art. So much fun. ♡

As crazy and creative as I expected. Always loved Alice and her free spirit so, for me, this was a 'must have/read' book.
