Two witches fight to steal a reckless prince's heart. Their rivalry, however, draws attention as the prince's lover tries protecting him and a controversial tsarina visits.
Minor: Body horror
I was in a months-long reading slump and this book has saved me. It was rivals-to-lovers and yet it has this “we’ve been competing for years, I know her like no one else” vibe that sort of reminds me of childhood friends to lovers. Childhood rivals to lovers ? Is that a thing ? Yeah so I loved this book pls read it if you haven’t it’s amazing and I loved it.
Romantasy style books just aren't my thing. Maybe ones with a little more depth and less young adult cringe. Just not for me

This was such a sweet story - I enjoyed the pining and rivalry. I thought it was paced really well. It felt as if the cat and mouse game to get the prince’s heart truly was a game at times. The story wasn’t a super complex one as far as its magic system and character development goes, but it didn’t need to be. The characters were lovable enough to carry out a feel-good rivals to lovers story. The ending felt a bit too open ended for me, considering this is a standalone book. It would have been nice to see everyone’s futures together in the epilogue.

I enjoyed the way this book turns the norms of the genre and gender norms both on their heads.
