Well, this was a nice surprise! The cover here screams generic YA fantasy of the mid 2000s. but it turns several tropes on its head. It’s a Slavic fantasy that’s set in POLAND, with authentic Polish vibes done in a way that should send other faux-Slavic fantasy authors running. The names, the holiday, the foods, the history, it’s HERE and it’s QUEER.
Jasinska has written Frozen meets Killing Eve and I am thrilled to see something truly fresh mixed with the classics we love. This book is not high-drama but the stakes are still high. It’s got “Do I want to be her, do I love her, or do I want her” energy and tension.
Sure, it wasn’t mind-blowing and genre-defining. It was fun, and I highly recommend it, though it lacked a bit of that compelling energy that makes you want to stay up until midnight, determined to catch the next plot twist and finding yourself totally surprised.
Need something new in the world of queer fantasy, that isn’t paragraphs deep in content warnings and graphic violence? This one’s for you. Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire, NetGalley, and the author for the chance to review an ARC of Midnight Girls.

It took me a minute to get into this one, but i thought the author did a wonderful job of weaving together some pretty intricate stories. As always when I find a good book, I wish it wasn't a stand alone. But at the same time I would rather the author stop after one rather than continue with a series when they should just end.

This book was confusing to me not in the sense that the actual book was confusing it was more that I love books with action and violence, but this book took me soooooooooooo long to read. But overall it was a good book but just wasn’t as entertaining as I thought it would be. Love the characters though.

*2.5 stars*
it had potential but the second half was messy and the ending was unsatisfying.

I love the concept and certain elements of this but idk, I’m just not loving it and I’m having a hard time reading anything right now
