Interesting, but not nearly as creepy as I was led to believe it was.

Zach, Poppy, and Alice have been playing together for years, spinning out elaborate stories with their action figures and dolls. When Zach's dad throws away his toys and Zach quits the game abruptly rather than tell his friends, Poppy and Alice take a valuable doll from Poppy's mom's collection to lure him back. But once The Queen is in Poppy's possession, Poppy starts seeing the ghost: Eleanor, who is somehow trapped in the doll and needs their help to be freed. The trio sets off on an impromptu midnight road trip across state lines to give the doll a proper burial, and to cross the chasm between childhood and the teen years.
More of a family/friendship/relationship story than a ghost story, which was a little disappointing (I wanted creepier), but it was a really great look at the changing friendships and relationships among middle-schoolers.
Nick Podehl narrates. <3

Saw this book in an airport bookshop and couldn't go on holiday without it!
The first thing that attracted me too it was the cover, it looked unusual. I read the blurb, flicked through the pages and paid for it straight away.
The book isn't very long but it'll keep you hooked. Even though the books main characters were a good 10 years younger than me, I still felt connected to them all.
It was creepy, sent shivers down my spine and re-instilled my love of old China dolls.
A real page-turner, though maybe not so suitable for younger children.

This is definitely for a younger audience. I honestly think my daughter will love it, and I would have at her age. I just don't think it translates well to adults.
I own this, but listened to the audio book so I could get some things done while reading. The audio is great! It was only about 4 hours long and the guy did a great job with the voices.

Could've spent my time doing something better. The other books I've read by Holly Black have been better.
3/5 stars. It was a children's book, so you've gotta give it some credit.

This book was adorable. In some ways it reminded me of Bridge to Terabithia, minus the total heartache. Poppy was definitely that snotty kid in class you wanted to push into the dirt, but she drove the story and I guess that makes it okay.
Excellent! Spooky and overall brilliant! (more to come)
