Great short from the PoV of Thomas, it introduces a fascinating concept in the Oblivion war.

I needed a novella for a book challenge and was delighted my library had this available. Instead of working from the viewpoint of Harry Dresden, this novel follows Thomas. Thomas is tasked with protecting dear Harry, who isn't even aware he is in danger. I think the short dip into the mind of a white vampire was really interesting and adds some depth to the series. An impressive accomplishment in such a short book!

Took a total of about 45 minutes to read this tiny little book. It was enjoyable, yet regrettably very short. He totally could have made this into an entire book OR inserted it into one of his myriad collections of short stories he edits or contributes to. Putting it into book form was not a great idea.

For an actual review I'd say it was neat to get into Thomas' head, since he's such a mystery in the Harry novels. That's about it. The insertion of yet another war into the world is annoying, and Thomas' visit with Justine didn't seem particularly true to their relationship. It read as a good short piece of fan fiction, but certainly not as a published work that's part of a great series.

I love it when Butcher writes stories about the other characters that populate his "Harry Dresden" series. Here, we follow events thru the view of Thomas Raith, a vampire of the White Court (they don't suck blood...that's the Red Court. Think more along the lines of succubus feeding off of someone's 'life force').

Thomas, relegated to supporting character in the Dresden Files series, gets his own novella, with entertaining results. Personally, I like Thomas better when he's not the narrator -- he lacks Dresden's humor -- but this was an enjoyable (not to mention quick) read.

I guess this is included in Side Jobs but I had it on my reading list for some time. This quick Novella features Thomas and it's a very quick read but helps add some more depth to his character and it's a nice change of perspective as well.
