I started with the audiobook and I hated the narration so much - I get the feeling the narrator never watched the show because the dialogue just was not delivered right. When I switched to the ebook it was so much better. Blake was clearly a fan - the characters’ lines and actions reflected their nature perfectly. However, as real as the characters were brought back to life for me I just found the story lacking. It was pretty slow and the ending was very dissatisfying. I don’t know if I’ll continue the series or not. I like the new cast of Scoobies and I’ve loved other books by Blake but this story just didn’t impress me much.

One girl in all the world...
Frankie is the daughter of Willow Rosenberg, Sunnydale's most powerful witch and Buffy's bestie. Willow teaches Frankie magic, and how to use it for the greater good. Spike and a teenage girl, Hailey, show up at the Rosenbergs' door to tell them that the annual Slayer convention was attacked. Frankie's Aunt Buffy, Hailey's sister Vi, and their friend Faith may have died in the attack. When Frankie finds herself suddenly endowed with slayer powers, the older slayers' untimely end seems more likely. As the first Slayer-Witch, Frankie awkwardly tries to navigate her new powers and responsibilities while trying to hone her magic skills. Not ready to give up on the chance that Buffy and the other slayers are still alive, Frankie and her friends set out to find answers while combatting a new evil in Sunnydale. Will the new generation of the Scooby gang nail the big bad and find answers? Or will Frankie go down like generations of slayers before her?
I am a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, so I was a little nervous, but excited to read this novel. This extension of the Buffyverse was a thrill to read, especially with beloved characters from the original series being part of the story. Frankie's one-liners reminded me of Buffy, and I couldn't get enough of the new Scooby gang! I listened to the audiobook, and I loved the narrator's way of voicing each character. I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or a good vampire story!

What a fun book. I loved seeing the old gang again, especially Spike. It was a fun read. I’m glad I pushed through to finish it. Can’t wait to see where she goes with the twist.

Yes, I did give this book five stars, because I loved everything about this book-- and then some.
You know how we all wish Harry Potter could be rewritten or even continued by someone not problematic and terrible?
That's literally what we are getting with the continuing saga of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not only does this book have inclusion, it's not heavy handed and is natural throughout the story.
This book starts off shocking and heartbreaking-- but as a big bad is revealed, as the pieces slowly start slipping into place with some of our fav Scooby gang-- and the birth of a new one-- we learn not everything is as it seems, and how was a new slayer called after all this time?!
It was so wonderful and almost cathartic to revisit all our old friends. They were written perfectly, and the voice actor was so brilliant! I loved her!
If you are a fan of buffy and miss it, I highly recommend. It's the continuation we've been waiting for!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Disney Hyperion for a review copy of this book.
As a millennial, I grew up watching buffy and falling in love with the Scooby gang and the vampires (team spike forever!) So this was a book I knew I had to read!
Seeing the new generation of the Scooby gang, which happens to be the children of some of the original gang, was like growing up even more with the characters I love, as I’m now a parent sharing the buffyverse with my own children (hooray for geeky kids books!).
As I read this book, it was just like I was watching an episode of the series all over again! I look forward to more books to see how Frankie, Jake, Spike (seriously love that he is a watcher now!!!) and others fight the hellmouth once again in Sunnydale.

Well this hit the spot for the nostalgia I was hoping for. A great revamp of the series, pun intended, that has the quirks, jokes, and familiar fam woven into the story which made me want to go through another rewatch of the original. For fans looking to keep the experience rolling I highly recommend this book.
