I loved this book. The overall-ness reminds me of Slaughterhouse Five, of which I still need to finish. I am glad Trumbo wrote this, I'm glad it is still being published and still being read. I think our country is too used to war that we forget the ugly side of it. This book, though fiction, brings that ugly side to your eyes. Thinking of Joe, I just want to cry.

Good but not great. I grew up reading Joyce and Kerouac, so I'm a fool for stream of consciousness and run on sentences. And this book has a ton of both. I also love the protagonists back story as well as his struggle to reach the external world. This plot lines retains so much anger and desperation, but it does drag on a bit though,
