I’m thinking this book only made three stars because the audiobook was narrated by Cynthia Erivo, but oh well. This really felt like an afterthought of the rest of the series. It was beautifully written, and there was a lot of action, but it just wasn’t as consequential as the other books in the series. I just didn’t care as much, unfortunately.

I would die for Zelie. Incredible series. Adeyemi is pure brilliance. I never want to leave the world of Orisha.

this is one of those series that could have benefitted from another book. i think some bridging events between the second book and this one would have made a world of difference because i still have so many unanswered questions.

at the same time, i love these books and the characters since they fill a deep gap in the fantasy genre, so if you’re invested in this series, give it a fair chance.

yeah so that was absolutely devastating. definitely could have been 300 pages longer and it probably would’ve been a 5 stars but i can’t dive into that right now. the ending was just not an ending and was tied up too nicely but the plot just got so much better from the second book. definitely the prettiest book i’ve ever read and im sad it came to an end
