If you like cute summer romance, young adult typa books this is for you.i found it kinda boring.it has a good plot but i think some people can find it predictable if they're smart enough.still a pretty cute book to me

Based on the title and the fact this book is marketed as "in the spirit of Colleen Hoover," I was immediately interested in reading it. Only Love Can Hurt Like This is an angsty, emotional, heartwarming story of love, loss, and grief. Most of all, it's a story about giving one's self a second chance to love.

The small town feel is absolutely charming, and I loved how simplistic yet beautiful both the writing style and world were. Despite the simplicity, the story never felt shallow or thin. At times, the writing and characters' inner narration felt a bit repetitive, but not enough to fully pull me out of the story.

This was going to be a 3 star read for me, but that last 30% or so really flipped me to a solid 4 star. The last chunk of the book had me blubbering like a baby and OH MY GOD, I should've seen it coming but I didn't. The thing I like most about the "twist" is that it doesn't feel shocking for the sake of drama; it felt real, raw, and vulnerable. That's when I truly, finally started to feel something for Anders (the love interest who, up until the last chunk of the book, didn't appeal to me very much--he was a tad boring). Turns out, guy isn't boring, he's simply traumatized and fighting his inner demons. He is such a GOOD guy. A genuinely GOOD guy and oh my lanta it was so refreshing. His POV chapters in the end swayed me to him.

I'm a Paige Toon fan now!

I love platonic love being portrayed amidst stories of love, betrayal, and insecurity.
Started slow but I enjoyed every second. Literally could not stop listening.

Another Goodreads reviewer said that the writing was “repetitive, monotonous and unremarkable” and I must agree with her. The author’s style seemed more like a journal entry that lacked any kind of emotion or passion and, therefore, made it difficult to connect to the characters. Also, the dialogues were stiff and awkward.

this was not what I was expecting AT ALL. so heart breaking but a beautiful story!! Loved Wren so much

A beautiful and complicated love story. The narrator is deeply reasonable and not at all petty or grudge-holding, which I appreciated. I loved that the author explored the complexity of relationships, particularly when they are not the first or only meaningful relationships in the character's lives. Balancing lost love with new love is much more dynamic and relatable than the cliché "first and only love" narrative most romance novels follow.
