This book is not what I thought it would be, but in the best way! This is a tale of a girl who is expected to go to a ball to marry a man. Even though that is not what she wants. She was in love with her best friend, who happened to be a girl. The evil king has been making the rules for far to long, and it's time someone stands up to him. We need more stories like this one!

Really enjoyed how refreshing of a take this was in terms of Diversity and flipping the fairytale narrative. I think the books had a lot of great ideas though it could be a little spoon fed with it's ideas sometimes. I think the booked lacked any subtlety and the ending felt extremely rushed. Still very enjoyable and intriguing. I did wish it were a little less direct and was more fleshed out though. I feel like it was missing something.

I really liked beginning, f/f romance, new spin on classic fairytale and all girl characters especially Sophia.
Romanceis ista-love but I still enjoyed it.
Villain was so bad, everything felt low in stakes and tension.
Overall enjoyable retelling.
