Too much extraneous material. The world needs more editors.

Promo price, bought this in German, as that is my first language, and english would also have been a translation.
Saw that there is a "Huss"-TV-Series, so I bough this one and the (also lower priced) second book in the series, not realising I have read a book from this author which I did not really like. Hopefully this will be better, also I have not yet looked into the TV-Series.

Really enjoyed this book. A police procedural, which I don't always love. Was enthralled from the moment the body went thunk, to the end when the heroine gets sent a painting -- all lovely. Detective Inspector Huss is part of a team working on the murder of one of the wealthier men in Goteborg, and we see event unfold mostly through her eyes -- but also through the eyes of her boss, who is older, potentially unhealthy, and unsure of dealing with the distractions of women on his team -- he is particularly not sure what is going on with Birgitta and the harassment she is experiencing. He muddles through, not sure he's doing the right thing. Irene Huss is also muddling through, but she feels clearer about her work than she does about her homelife with two teenaged daughters, one of home has joined a skinhead band which Irene is furious and frightened about --

Found the translation a bit uneven at times, but very much enjoyed reading this book. Characters, plot, settings, distractions -- all seemed quite real. Was surprised when the Hell's Angels showed up (in Sweden? Had no idea). Will read more in the series.

Picked this up after reading “An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good” which mentions this inspector

But oh this book was sooooo plodding. It is perhaps TOO realistic in terms of police procedures in solving a murder.

I skimmed through most of it to get to the end.

Really enjoyed this. It slowed for me at times, but the story and character-building was great and I hadn't picked out the murderer or the motive until the very end.

Enjoyable, but somewhat bland. Liked it overall.

I really enjoyed this mystery. I feel like it's really typical for cop shows and books to have the main character have martial problems because of the job. I liked that the relationship between her and her husband was solid and that the family conflict was from her daughter getting into something she didn't fully understand for the sake of a boy. I liked how the clues were released and when a new one came out it was exciting that I could make the connection before the book told me. I enjoyed it and want to read more.

I found the plot and characterization was excellent. The detail about the locale, people, and activities gave a lot of substance to the story. Thankfully I was able to find many of the places on maps.google.com and have some sense of geography--where things happened and geographic relationships. I will definitely read more Tursten and Inspector Huss.
