I was expecting a darker story based on the description but I was pleasantly surprised by the tone and writing. The main things I dislike about this novella are Delgadina's age and the overall plot of the story. I don't get why the teenage prostitute had to be so young. Shes described as almost prepubescent when he initially meets her and I feel like she could have just been a young adult and the story would be the same without the gross pedophilic undertones. In terms of the plot, I just didn't buy it. They never speak, she's not even awake when they're together, and yet she's the only girl he ever falls in love with. I'm giving this two stars instead of one because the writing was beautiful (of course it is, it's written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez).
I didn't like this book. I didn't like how he reacted when he found out that the 14 year old girl may have been sold into prostitution. I thought the man was creepy.

My first Gabriela Garcia Marquez! It caught my eye because it's a novella and has an odd blurb. GGM writes in a prose that's descriptive and evocative but still easy to read, I finished it in a day.
The plot itself moves pretty slow, but it's fun to follow along with all the memories and oddities of this old man.
